There's Campo de San Francisco, right in the centre of Oviedo. A park with trees that have watched two centuries of ordinary life go by. You enter from several sides, you move through it without a plan, and at 8:30 on a Tuesday, you have the place to yourself. The marble fountain in the middle, the wrought-iron benches, the paths that run alongside the flower beds — every corner has its own light. I've been taking clients there for two years.
Then there's Parque de Invierno, north of the centre. More contemporary, more mineral. Stone terraces, large stairways where December light falls unobstructed. When the sky is low and grey — which happens often here — the pale stone throws back a diffuse light that works beautifully on faces. Parque de Invierno is the winter option.
Monte Naranco, above the city. A ten-minute drive up, sometimes on foot for those who like combining a walk with a session. The view over Oviedo and the mountains beyond gives portraits with a sky that breathes. The landscape changes with the season: wildflowers in spring, ferns in summer, low raking light in October.
In the casco antiguo, I guide you. Narrow streets of cut stone, ochre and pearl-grey facades, corners where light arrives indirectly through dead angles.
